A Smith Family program aims to bridge the digital divide felt by students and their families. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the digital divide, particularly for low-income families. The Smith Family hopes to combat this with their one-on-one teaching program.
Families who took part in this program were given a laptop and Internet access. This initiative means students, who previously were unable to afford to pay for the Internet, now have the required technology to participate in remote learning.
Access to the right tools has given students who were falling behind the means to catch up to their classmates. Crucial to the program’s success is getting parents involved with their children.
